The SCAF project is divided into four phases. The first phase of project SCAF is the choice of sites for the network. Phase two. The finalisation of the site specific SCAF designs for the chosen sites and the organization of the health study. That should take approximately three months. As soon as the first site is chosen, pollution monitors will be bought and installed on and in the surroundings of the site to have a baseline for future comparisons of the pollution levels. The third phase is the construction of the SCAF towers. The construction of a tower is completed in three phases. 1st set out foundations followed by the erection of the chimney. Next, the construction of the support structure of the glass and DSCs and the physical installation of the windmill and monitors. The lengths of these two steps depend on size of the SCAF, but for a minimum tower, 30 days are allocated to these tasks. 2nd The posing of the glass can begin as soon as the support structure is aleast 60% finished, followed by the posing of the DSCs. 20 days are allocated to finish each task (40 days total). The laying of the cables by the electrician can begin at the same moment as the posing of the glass. 3rd With 20 days to finish the laying of the cables, the electrician should finish this task in time to begin the electronic installation of the DSCs as they are posed, and do the electric installation of the windmill. As soon as all the DSC's are posed and the electronic installations are accomplished the filters can be put in place. The time between the changes of the filters is not yet fixed and dependant on pollution levels but a period of about a month is foreseen. The filter changes should be done by a maintenance team provided by the city.
