[The display model]
With the aid of the Lausanne section of the
UTS, the Union Technique Suisse (formally the Swiss Engineers Association), a
miniature display model, (1.8m high, base area 1.8m2), was constructed for the
HumanTech exhibition celebrating the 100th anniversary of the UTS. This
model shows the basic form of the structure.
The prototype uses
conventional solar panels due to the unavailability of appropriatly sized dye
cell panels at the time of construction and budgetary limitations. Due to
exhibition size restrictions the prototype is not big enough to produce a
meaningfull current of air to run the wind turbine, (which was positioned with
the blades above the top of the chimney to take advantage of any exterior
wind).
The roof of the model rises very sharply because of its small diametre. The larger the SCAF the flatter the roof, but it will always be high to gain air volume.
